“Portraits and Figures” - New Art Show in Cambridge
DCA ANNOUNCES AUGUST GALLERY SHOW
The Dorchester Center for the Arts will present “Portraits and Figures” in their gallery in August. The works of Margaret Dyer, Hans Guerin, Katie Cassidy and Linda Roy Walls will be featured. The show is sponsored by Nichols Lawn and Landscape, L.L.C.
Margaret Dyer is a Master Pastelist with the Pastel Society of America. Her work has been featured in “Pure Color: The Best of Pastels 100 Ways to Paint People & Figures, Volumes 1 and 2; The Pastel Journal International Artist Magazine, American Artist and much more.
Hans Paul Guerin was born in Frankfort and is the sixth generation of artists in his family. His maternal grandparents founded the Schuler School of Fine Arts, and after obtaining his degree from Salisbury University, he graduated from the Schuler facility in 2005. He has conducted workshops and held gallery shows throughout the United States.
Katie Cassidy is a pastel artist from Easton who has taught adult classes, special workshops and children’s programs throughout the Eastern Shore for several years. She is well-known for her portraits and landscapes and has a strong following of students and clients. Cassidy, a graduate of the University of Maryland, has also studied classical drawing and painting with Italian Master Primo Conti in Florence Italy, and at the Academia Di Bella Arti, Perguia, Italy.
Linda Roy Walls is an Eastern Shore of Maryland photographer specializing in subjects on canvas featuring natural life and light. Linda focuses on weather, wildlife, and water and admits an added fascination for photographing local people, especially those who “live in the moment and look like it.”
The show will run August 5-28 and will be celebrated at an Artists’ Reception on Saturday, August 14. There will be music and light refreshments at this free event. For more information, call 410-228-7782.
“Plein Air” Art Weekend
Wades Point Inn on the Bay to Host a “Plein Air” Art Weekend August 13-15th
Wades Point Inn, just outside of St. Michael’s, Maryland is hosting a weekend art retreat filled with art creation and just “plein” fun on the majestic grounds of Wades Point Inn on the Bay of Maryland’s Eastern Shore. With its sweeping views of the Chesapeake and Eastern Bay, Wades Point Inn offers a beautiful environment for those seeking artistic inspiration at this retreat.
Outside Art Adventures, based out of Aesthetic Alternatives Art Studios in Sherwood, MD is organizing the event with workshops such as Sumi-e Seascapes, an eastern approach to painting the sea, Wildlife and Nature Sketching, Pastel Painting at the Pier, and Colors , Creativity and Kayaks. Other opportunities include local studio tours and catered critiques. Outside Art’s programs encourage participants to study, discover and communicate their individual perceptions of nature in a relaxed, informative and nurturing environment. Participants have opportunities to create with varied media and styles, learn professional art elements and techniques and creatively express themselves while absorbing the beauty and messages of nature.
All workshops are taught by Dawn Malosh, a local artist, art educator, and recent transplant to the Eastern Shore. Throughout her many years in the field, Dawn has served as an art department head, an art specialist at multiple environmental and conservation learning centers, an arts grant recipient, an art business owner, an educational guide at the world-renowned Biosphere 2 and an esteemed presenter in her field at various national conferences. Most importantly, Dawn has facilitated the artistic growth of thousands of blossoming artists for the last two decades.

Sumi-e Painting in the Wetlands for Kids

Sumi-e is a type of traditional Chinese painting using black ink. Many painters throughout Chinese history were inspired by wetlands and the animals that inhabit them. This camp will give kids and opportunity to experience this inspiration themselves by trying the traditional eastern approach to painting wetlands animals and water while learning about the amazing animals and characteristics of them. Traditional Chinese painting media, such as the bamboo brush, sumi-e ink, rice paper and suzuri inkwell will be demonstrated. With most of the camp held on the banks of Environmental Concern’s wetlands, there will be many opportunities to paint beautiful wetlands scenes inspired by eastern painting styles and Chinese painting tradition. Summer Seascapes- Painting at the Pier!

Sailboats, sea nettles, sand, seashells and more will be explored through art in this fun three day workshop at the Claiborne pier and beach! Young artists from 8-14 years will have opportunities to observe the life and life forms on the Chesapeake while learning how to draw and paint them. Seascapes at Sunset - Outside Art Workshop for kids and families
