The Music Man

The Country School proudly presents Meredith Willson’s The Music Man as its 2011 upper school spring musical. Set in fictional River City, Iowa, in 1912, the story revolves around a dishonest traveling salesman, “Professor” Harold Hill (Nathan Mullen), whose usual method of doing business is to swindle well-meaning parents with big promises about creating a kids’ band, collecting money for instruments and band uniforms – and then disappearing. His plans are disrupted when he meets Marian Paroo (Maya Thomas), the town librarian and piano teacher, who takes a dim view of the sweet-talking Professor Hill – until she begins to notice how the band is affecting her younger brother, Winthrop (Tyler Judd).

The Music Man takes an amusing look at a simpler time in American history, when small town life was the way of almost every American family. The cast includes 56 students in grades 5-8, with 16 additional tech and stage crew participating in the production. The Music Man features many memorable musical numbers, including “Ya Got Trouble,”  “Seventy-Six Trombones,” “Till There Was You” and more. This is director Richard Osborne's 25th musical production.

Shows are Friday evenings, Feb. 25 & March 4, at 7:00PM, and Sunday afternoons, Feb. 27 & March 6, at 3:00PM. All tickets are $8, available online at www.countryschool.org and in Easton at Crackerjacks and at the door 45 minutes before curtain (barring an advance sell-out) at The Country School, 716 Goldsborough St., Easton.
