Dorchester Humane Society Becomes Baywater Animal Rescue - Open House

The Dorchester Humane Society in Cambridge will immediately begin operating under the new trade name Baywater Animal Rescue.  The change was created to reinforce what the organization actually is and what it offers.

In business since 1947, Baywater Animal Rescue is a No Kill animal shelter that assures a better life for companion animals by providing safe shelter, finding loving homes and promoting respect for their place in our lives.  The name change is the first step in achieving their vision of a regional, No Kill animal shelter within an environmentally friendly facility that offers multiple spaces for use by the community.

The Board chose the new name to better reflect its No Kill mission, the regional rescues the organization is currently providing and to raise awareness that the organization is not county funded.  “One of the biggest misconceptions is that we receive financial support from our county government,” said Suzette Stitely, executive director.  “We have to raise every penny in our budget and that has been very challenging.  We’re hoping the name change will also boost donations from outside our area.”  Baywater Animal Rescue staff also note that animal shelters with set geographical areas are becoming a thing of the past.  The trend is now helping animals regionally by working together.  Their dream is to unite the entire Mid-Shore into a No Kill region.

The Board and staff want to be very clear that while the name has changed, the mission has not.  “We’re all about saving as many animals as we can,” adds Stitely.  “When you adopt from us you rescue two animals; the one you adopt and the new one we can accept in its place.”

Baywater Animal Rescue will kick off their new name campaign with an Open House March 17th from 11 am-3 pm at the shelter located at 4930 Bucktown Rd. in Cambridge.  There will be refreshments and adopters will receive discounts on adoption fees depending how much “luck of the Irish” they win.  Details can be found on the soon to be launched website www.baywateranimalrescue.org.
